Kind of irrelevant to your broader point but...

Does any of this matter? As I say, if chucking it from 22 yards was so effective then wouldn’t that be net practice sorted forever more?

Not really. It has been proven repeatedly that batsmen's reaction time is insufficient to account for their ability to play the ball, and that therefore they have to be able to read visual cues from the bowler during delivery. If a batsman primarily practices against chucking (or a bowling machine for that matter) they won't learn those visual cues.

Oh Come on people! lets enjoy fair cricket and not just try'n cover your failures by blaming opponents. Englishmen should try to learn from Asian players instead of pointing fingers on them. English media can't see team like Pakistan flourishing high.

very good article. it bothers me that anytime western batsmen struggle with ex colonial bowlers questions are asked about their legality. first the laws were changed to blunt the west indian pacers, then the pakistani reverse swingers were cheats, then murali was a chucker and now sky's pundits claim ajmal wears long sleeves because he is throwing it. to steal a phrase from the internet kidz: sore losers much?

Agree wholeheartedly about the long-sleeve comments. Somehow, the fact that Graeme Swann also wear long-sleeves never seems to be relevant, but when Ajmal does, then it's open season to cast doubt on his integrite

Interesting, and I look forward to the full interview.

I seem to recall Martin Johnson saying that he wanted to treat the England rugby union team like adults, although I suspect he was only referring to what they did away from the pitch and the training ground. And in his case it didn't work either.

In searching for reasons why Flower has succeeded where Moores failed, I think you're right to identify a degree of post-2005 complacency. While, as we know, that should have slipped within months, it probably lasted as long, in some quarters, as the 51 all out in Jamaica, and the noises off created by the struggles for fitness of Vaughan and Flintoff didn't help either.

Undoubtedly Flower has been exceptional, but Moores' period in charge came at a tricky time. Many another fine coach would have found the job equally difficult then.
